Usually refers to parts of an automobile that are shiny in nature. Alloy wheels often have a chrome finish. A true chrome finish is created by taking an iron alloy part and using a process to electrolytically deposit the element chromium on the surface. The process of chroming an iron alloy provides a hard, corrosion-resistant, lustrous finish. The element chromium was discovered in 1797 and is named after the greek word Chroma which means "color".
